Restoration work begins on historic home

A prominent NYC photographer recently purchased this 1840 Greek Revival home set on a wooded 25 acre site with two ponds, a guest cottage and nine stall barn. The new owner hired Architex to design several ‘sympathetic’ additions including a two-car garage with connecting breezeway / mudroom, back entry portico and a deck / pergola structure overlooking the backyard and one of the ponds. The project will also entail the reconstruction of two second story bedroom wings and interior alterations for a complete kitchen remodel, new bathrooms and a laundry space. The balance of Architectural services will focus on identifying areas of the existing 4676 s.f. building that will require repair, restoration and/or replacement of historic trimwork, finish materials, fireplaces, structural framing and mechanical systems.
